Three Ways to Replace A Missing Tooth

Posted on 2/6/2023 by Evan
Three Ways to Replace A Missing ToothMissing teeth arise from tooth removal of severely decayed teeth or car, sports, work-related accidents, and certain illnesses and trauma. Other than the loss of confidence, missing teeth reduce the aesthetics of your smile, and chewing ability. Missing teeth should, therefore, be replaced as soon as possible. Below are three common ways to replace missing teeth.

Dental Bridgework

Dental bridges are artificial teeth made from gold, porcelain, ceramic, or composite resin material. Tooth bridges are secured in place by an abutment to fill in the gap left by missing teeth. They are an affordable, efficient, and minimally invasive way of replacing missing teeth. There are four types of dental bridges, which are traditional fixed bridges, Maryland dental bridges, cantilever bridges, and implant-supported bridges.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are another affordable, non-invasive way of restoring the aesthetic and functional aspects of a patient with missing teeth. Partials are removable frames, made from nylon or plastic, upon which artificial teeth are secured. Patients using partial dentures are advised to remove them before sleeping and regularly clean them to avoid bacterial infections.

Partial dentures are most effective in replacing the posterior or back and anterior or front teeth and are used to replace only a handful of teeth. If you have a set of missing teeth, you'll have to use full dentures.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are medical devices fixed surgically into your jawbone, on top of which artificial teeth are placed. Tooth implants bond to the jawbone through osseointegration to provide the robustness needed for the artificial tooth. There are three common types of dental implants and they are endosteal, subperiosteal, and zygomatic implants.

If you are at crossroads when choosing which type of dental implant you need, it is always paramount that you consult a dentist experienced in dental implants. Call and book an appointment with our dentist today.
